Session Title:
Design in Context: Understanding the Greater Ecosystem
DOUG PAIGE
Natural ecosystems have many organisms living in concert, interconnected and interdependent. In contrast, many human systems lose sight of this and are made of many disparate parts without the basic comprehension of the whole. What are the goals of design, the designer and the manufacturer? How can design better understand its role as part of an ecosystem? What can we learn from natural systems? We will explore biomimicry and examine natural ecosystems to see how we can apply these lessons to our everyday design problems.
