IDSA/Eastman Education Symposium 2017: Call for Education Papers

Welcome to Emergent Pedagogy in Design!

With expanding opportunities, often, educators are challenged to cultivate and deliver emerging content/materials without diluting the traditional attributes of design education. Connect and share your insight as we dive deep into the future of design pedagogy at the IDSA/Eastman Education Symposium 2017 on Aug.16 in Atlanta, GA Submit your education paper to Emergent Pedagogy in Design, which will kick off the IDSA International Design Conference, chaired by Jeevak Badve, IDSA, who notes, “The world’s most innovative companies are declaring solidarity with design—reserving a seat on the board for a chief design officer; assimilating design strategy; or making room for design to influence business strategy significantly.” It’s a testament to the progression of design discipline and reflects the expanding potential for designers in the future.

However, growth of design discipline comes with drawbacks in education. Scholarly interests are quickly evolving and instructors are asked to deliver more—in less time. We’re curious about how you integrate emerging content/materials in your class and/or research. It’s not easy, but we’re confident many of you have a successful story to tell. We want to hear your story; your experience; your vision of design education in the future. Share your exploration with the design community!
The IDSA/Eastman Education Symposium 2017 is open to design educators and thought leaders in fields ranging from design school curricula to K-12 and from corporate education to the education of the general public. Please review the criteria for the paper review process:

  • Full papers are to be submitted to help ensure the papers are of the highest quality.
  • A Symposium Proceeding (consisting of 1-page executive summaries of the full papers) will be published and distributed at the IDSA/Eastman Education Symposium and at the IDSA International Design Conference.

We hope you choose to be part of this dynamic, unique event—drawing experts in industrial design education from around the world—and enrich us with your papers and talks. I look forward to your participation as design educators, designers of education and post graduate students from all over the world.
