Ford Motor Company has presented the Center for Design Research (CDR) at the University of Kansas with the Alan Mulally Leadership in Engineering Scholarship. The $10,000 prize will be awarded to an industrial design or engineering student for the 2015-16 academic year.
“Ford has been a tremendous and gracious partner with the CDR through sponsored research projects, student mentoring, equipment donations and now through this scholarship,” says Greg Thomas, IDSA, professor of design and CDR director. “This is another great example of how KU collaborates with industry in a way that benefits the university, our students and the corporate partner.”
To be eligible, applicants must be a current sophomore or junior, specializing in automotive engineering or industrial design, and earn a 3.5 GPA. The application deadline is March 25.
The CDR’s relationship with Ford began in 2011, when Thomas approached the company about a sponsored research project. The IDSA Student Chapter at the University of Kansas is advised by Professor Lance Rake, IDSA.
Ford will award similar, annual, Mulally student scholarships as part of a $1 million, 10-year program at its partner universities around the world. Mullaly retired as Ford’s president, chief executive officer and board member in June 2014.
